Animal Shelter Robbery (Henrietta Wildsmith/The Times)
Two thieves stole about $350 worth of dog food from the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter Dec. 16.
The men entered the shelter on the 1500 block of Monty Ave. just after midnight. There were no signs of forced entry, said Cpl. Marcus Hines with the Shreveport Police Department.
Security footage from the shelter shows two men entering the building. The footage then cuts to one of the men carrying two large bags of dog food. A short time later, the same man is wheeling bags of Purina Dog Chow Complete Adult Dry Food down a hallway and out of the shelter. His accomplice is seen walking behind him, carrying several smaller bags.
The shelter has already replaced the food that was stolen, said Mary Sanders, a front desk clerk. The shelter’s biggest need currently are newspapers for their puppies.
Shreveport Police said more than a dozen bags were taken. The suspects were driving a light blue or silver Mercury Grand Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria, according to police.
Shreveport Caddo Crime Stoppers is offering a reward to information leading to the identification and arrest of the thieves. They can be contacted at 318-673-7373 or Lockemup.org.
