An adorable wedding took place in Cleethorpes today as two dachshunds wearing a tuxedo and wedding dress tied the knot.
The wedding is the first of its kind to be held in Cleethorpes and saw smooth coated dachshund Colin get hitched to his wire haired partner Betty in a unique service that you really had to see to believe.
Taking place at the Waggie Tails Café on Sea View Street, the bride and groom were joined by their bridesmaid Darla the black Labrador and an array of other canine guests who were all dressed the part in dickie bows and even tutus.
Colin and Betty even had their own stag and hen parties prior to the wedding.
Dressed in his tuxedo, Colin anxiously awaited the arrival of his new bride Betty, who pulled up in a black Jaguar with a white ribbon on the bonnet.
The café itself was decorated with wedding decorations, and there was even a special wedding cake with two dachshunds placed on the top.
The service was led by Elizabeth, who read out each of the two dogs’ vows, before getting them each to wag their tails in approval of them.
She said: “I would like to welcome you all to the wedding of the handsome Colin and the beautiful Betty.
“Some people think that dog weddings are a silly idea, but they are all human.
“Some of you have humans with you, and that is ok as long as you make sure they are well behaved.
“Colin will you love Betty forever, share all your treats with her and show her how to behave around horses?
“Betty, will you remain as lovely and clean as you are today, keep out of hedges and stop rolling in fox poo?”
Both of the dogs eagerly wagged their tales in approval.
Instead of rings the bride and groom each gave each other special lockets with their faces on them, which they will wear on their collars as a sign of their matrimony.
Following the ceremony the loving couple then signed a wedding certificate each, by placing their paws which were dabbed in ink on them.
There were howls of celebration from the crowd as the couple officially tied the knot, before heading off to tuck into a nice dog food buffet, while their humans enjoyed a glass of champagne and some cake.
The dog’s ‘parents’ Jason and Tracey McCusker said that they wanted to hold the ceremony as the two dogs are soon about to start breeding together and wanted them to be married before their puppies arrived.
Father of the bride Jason said: “We wanted to hold this wedding for our beautiful dogs Colin and Betty so that we would be able to bring a little bit of happiness into the world.
“We often hear about so many nasty things in the world and we felt that a nice doggy wedding would be a brilliant way to bring something nice into people’s lives.
“It has been a strange but really wonderful occasion and I am sure that Colin and Betty will be very happily married for a long time.”
Colin and Betty are not the only dogs that Jason and Tracey have, they also own the bridesmaid Darla and a terrier called George. That is on top of their 15 chickens and a miniature donkey.
