You are more likely to hear dog owners calling Rosie, Molly and Teddy in parks in the Bristol region than anywhere else in the UK.
According to data based on 209,389 dog names registered with Agria Pet Insurance between May 2016 and May 2017, these are three of the favourite names for dogs in the South West.
Rosie and Molly fail to appear in the UK’s overall top ten, however, which means you are more likely to find a dog called Rosie or Molly in the South West than in the rest of the country.
But the names, Bella, Poppy and Ruby are the most popular the West, similar to the rest of the UK, where the top three is Bella, Lola and Poppy.
The data has been released by Agria Pet Insurance ahead of the Kennel Club’s Eukanuba Discover Dogs event, which will take place at ExCeL in London between October 21 and 22.
Caroline Kisko, spokesperson for the Kennel Club’s Eukanuba Discover Dogs event, said: “Dogs are part of the family, so our choice of dog name is very personal and our recent research has indicated that almost one in five people spend more than two hours on the choice.
“However, people need to give a lot of consideration to the right breed for their lifestyle as well, in order to ensure a happy and lifelong partnership, and sadly some people are spending less time on this than choosing their dog’s name.
“Whilst 5% choose their dog’s name on impulse this is 23% when selecting a breed.
“People can meet the huge range of dog breeds at our Discover Dogs event, or find out about them on our website, and they are all so different, so we urge people to do their research before they buy or rescue a dog.”
